Ternflight coughed and looked mournfully out in the night. The full moon was setting. The Clan would be coming back soon. He coughed again. The camp was unsettlingly silent. All cats except for him had gone to the Gathering. Ternflight had wanted to go very badly - then, of course, there was the point of him starting an epidemic among all the Clans. Yes, Ternflight had greencough. Everybody doubted it was fatal, but he was cooped up in the medicine cat's den with an aching chest and a beautiful but completely sour she-cat. How was that ever considered fair? Tigerstar had gone, as well as Nightfall - she was pretty, too. He sighed and his eyes darted out over the clearing. That was when he detected the first trace of movement.
There was a red shape at the edge of the camp. Ternflight froze, then scrambled to its paws. The red shape's massive head turned and he sighted glowing eyes. It was a fox!
Immediately Ternflight was frozen again; he had never been one to exemplify courage. His limbs froze, as did the fox's. Then the fox's muscle tensed. Suddenly, there was some red hawk flying in the air; he didn't know what it was, his vision was fogging. Petrified, he rushed to the back of the medicine cat's den and crouched there. But he was cornered, and the fox was outside. Ternflight wasn't thinking straight; his eyes were darting to and fro, like a rabbit when it's been caught. He made a mad rush outside, but the fox was upon him; with sharp ivory teeth it bit down on his tail as he fled. A sharp pain spread through his tail and blood started to show on it. He was truly caught now.
With blind instincts, Ternflight turned and scratched the fox over it's nose. The fox let go, but Ternflight wasn't done. He rushed forward to attack himself, clawing and scratching, to it's flank. The fox staggered from his weight, then fell, crushing him underneath. For a moment, Ternflight couldn't breathe and his vision began to blacken. Then he saw light again, and felt sweet air in his lungs. But the fox had him, and snarling, it bit into the most obvious part of him; his ear. The fox's teeth went through his ear, and Ternflight scratched and spat and clawed himself free. Two bloody holes went through his ear where the fox had bitten. The fox pounced again and the two rolled toward the nursery. Ternflight was underneath the heavy weight of the fox, and the fox's jaws hung near his throat.

Tigerstar padded back towards the camp. His ears were flat on his head and his tail lashed back and forth. Him and the Windclan leader, Echostar weren't on good terms at the moment. And all because he had let his half-brother, Rainstorm, go. Sure, they gave him plenty of wounds, but that obviously wasn't enough for that stupid Cream-colored she-cat. He let out a hiss of frustration as he continued through the swamp.
His large paws froze suddenly. He could hear fighting. Ternflight! As he picked up the pace, he began to command his warriors to prepare themselves for battle. How could Windclan attack the camp on the full moon! He would have to speak to Echostar about this later. Right now he had to protect his best friend. After a few moments, a new scent came to his nose. Fox! So it wasn't Windclan, thankfully. Yet, his nerves only worsened. Now his sick friend was inside the camp, fighting a huge furry flea bag!
"Shadowclan, attack," he yowled as he busted through the camp entrance. He looked around frantically and finally he spotted the large red creature and a smaller, black and white cat. They rolled on the ground. He could already smell blood, yet he couldn't tell whose it was. He ran forward and leaped, a loud snarl escaping him. He landed on the fox's back and dug his claws in so he could hang on.
He raked his hind paws down the fox's mangy pelt. He could her a high pitched yelp, making him smile a bit. His smile stopped as soon as the fox shook its pelt. He let out a shocked yowl as the fox threw him a few mouse lengths away from it. He landed on the ground with a large thump. Groaning, he tried to get up, but his paws didn't hold him. He fell back down, letting his mind calm down. He was dizzy, but he couldn't give up yet.

Summerpaw’s mind whirled as she followed Tigerstar back to camp. It had been her first Gathering, and it had been an interesting one. RiverClan had shown up very late, and everyone was on edge because of the assassins. Her ears twitched slightly as she remembered Echostar’s reaction to her leader’s news – it hadn’t been good, almost violent. Everyone was already tense and anxious, and Summerpaw knew that Echostar was simply worried. But still, she disliked how rude she had been to Tigerstar. Truthfully, the little gold cat didn’t know what exactly to think at the moment, and soon, she didn’t have to.
Seconds after Tigerstar scented the fox, the young apprentice did as well. Her green eyes flew open wide, her fur bristling. Ternflight was alone in the camp, and sick, too! She could hear fighting and took off after Tigerstar. She was young, true, but she couldn’t just stand by and let her Clan members be hurt. For a moment, she watched helplessly as her leader and the mangy red creature fought, unsure what to do. When Tigerstar was thrown from the fox, Summerpaw sprang into action.
She wasn’t very big, nor was she all that strong, so the fox didn’t notice her right at first. That was until she leaped onto its back, hissing and snarling, digging her teeth into its ear. The fox yelped in surprise and pain and tried to shake her off, and she dug her claws into its pelt. The fox quickly dropped to the ground and roll, squishing the cat beneath him, making her hiss again. Summerpaw scratched at the fox until it moved away, gasping slightly as one of its claws caught her across her face. Blood dripped into her eye as she staggered back, dizzy. Summerpaw blinked blood away from her eye, ears flat as she fought to keep standing, tense as the fox began to creep forward again.

Once his vision clear, Tigerstar was on his paws again. He noticed the large red creature lumbering over Summerpaw, one of the newer apprentices. He cursed himself. She couldn't take on a fox by herself. She had barely started training. He could already see blood running down her face. His pelt bristled as the fox reared up to land on the apprentice with its front paws. He let out a screech as he leaped at the canine.
He hit its side, knocking both of them over. "Go for the neck and belly, Summerpaw," he snarled at the apprentice as scratched at its flank. He had dazed it, but it would be even more furious than it was before. They had to chase it out of camp and soon. He didn't want anymore of his cats hurt. He watched as it got back up, quickly turning on him. Dodging to a side, he raked his claws down its side. He was a fierce fighter, clearly showing no sign of weakness.
"Ternflight, take shelter with the queens and elders in the nursery," he snapped. He suddenly felt sharp teeth dig into his neck. He was lifted off the ground and was suddenly being shaken around. He let out a yowl of fear and pain as he felt the teeth dig deeper into his neck. He aimed a blow at the fox's muzzle, but his claws only met open air. Blood flowed down his chest and was being splattered everywhere as he was shaken.
Starclan save me! he wailed in his head, hoping his starry ancestors would send a miracle.

Dazed, Ternflight suddenly realized that the fox was not on him anymore. He looked around, blinking, but his vision was blurry and useless. The fox was writhing, and he wondered why. Some orange part of it - maybe it's tail - was jumping on top of it. How weird. Maybe it was - you know, a fever dream. He had had those once when he was sick. They made him think that there was some bird attacking him or something. Fever dreams didn't make sense. Yeah - they didn't make sense, just like a fox's tail attacking it. Fever dream made sense, and he could just roll over and collapse into another slumber. He was just in a medicine cat's den anyway. There was no use reacting to a stupid dream. He was alone.
All of a sudden, Ternflight's vision cleared and he was able to hear Tigerstar's voice, sharp and direct, telling him to shelter. "Are you kidding me?" Ternflight shouted back, launching himself into the action by leaping onto the fox as it lunged for Summerpaw. He was feeling a little woozy from the poppy seeds Fernwhisker had given him, but he tried his best, leaping and snapping at the enraged fox. His eyes scanned over the scene and then snapped back to his friend, lying, defenseless, in the fox's mouth. Blood was streaming Tigerstar's chest. For a moment, Ternflight was frozen. Then, with fierce determination gleaming in his eyes, he leaped forward, attaching himself to the fox's head and clawing furiously at its muzzle and eyes.
The fox let go of Tigerstar, and relieved, Ternflight dropped to the ground and ran to his friend. But a shadow was behind him. Ternflight was running, and was almost to Tigerstar. Then the fox's muzzle loomed in front of him. There was a crack, a stab of pain, and darkness.
ooc; Ternflight probably just broke his leg or something. he's no use, fighting when he's sick xD anyway i thought it'd be sweet if he interfered for his friend <3

Summerpaw's face hurt, and the pain was almost blinding. Part of her was screaming at her, asking her why she thought it was a good idea to get involved in this when she had only begun training? It was a sucide mission! She barely had any training in battle, so she was fairly useless in this situation. But Summerpaw had never been one to back down from a challenge - especially when one of her Clanmates were in danger. Sure, she might not be a true ShadowClan cat, only a foundling adopted into the Clan, but she was fiercely loyal. And she wasn't about to stand by and let this fox kill off her Clan members, not if she could help it. The golden apprentice shook her head, blinking to clear her vision, when Tigerstar yowled at her.
While she had been distracted, the fox had been about to stomp on her. She darted out of the way just as her leader leaped on it. Belly and neck would be killing blows, she knew that much. Summerpaw watched in horror as Tigerstar and the fox wrestled, not knowing what to do. She couldn't just leap in there, she didn't want to risk hitting Tigerstar! But she couldn't just stand there, especially when the fox latched onto the ShadowClan leader's neck. An ear twitched as Ternflight flung himself into the fray, getting the fox off of Tigerstar. For a moment, the she-cat was relieved... until she heard the awful snap. "Ternflight!" she yowled in fear and anger.
The fox was standing over her fallen Clanmate and, furious, she flung herself at the fox, clawing viciously at its neck and belly. The fox gowled and tried to flatten her with one paw, but she dogded to one side and slashed at it's flanks. She stood protectively over Ternflight, green eyes glittering like shards of glass, hackles up. The fox managed to slash at her, catching her on her flank, but she stood firm. "Get out of here, now!" she snarled, blood rolling down her face, unmoving.

Tigerstar's vision began to blur. He was being torn to shreds. Why wasn't his clan helping him? Why didn't they attack the fox? Just as he thought that, he felt the fox drop him. He landed on the ground with a loud thud and just laid there, unmoving. He didn't know what was going on. All he could see was darkness.
Suddenly a clearing appeared. He couldn't feel the pain anymore. Looking around, he noticed there were nine cats in front of him. All of them stared and he noticed the stars in their pelts. They were the cats who had given him his nine lives. Was he losing one of those nine lives now? He blinked his green gaze as a tinier cream colored she-cat stepped forward. "Leafstar....," he mewed.
He felt his sister press her muzzle up against his and both of them purred in delight to see each other. His eyes softened at her. "You are losing a life Tigerstar. Be careful next time, but protect Shadowclan well. You must join the battle again. There are two cats who are in need of you," he heard her mew. He nodded and the vision faded.
The next thing he knew, he was hearing growling and hissing. His muscles were aching from the long night. He wasn't sure if he could get back up he hurt so badly. He had to, though. He forced himself up into a sitting position and opened his leafy green eyes. Blinking the blood out of his eyes, he noticed the fox looming over Summerpaw, who was standing protectively over Ternflight.
Gasping, he got up and bounded over. He stood next in front of Summerpaw, shielding bother her and Ternflight with him. His eyes narrowed and he bared his teeth at the large canine. "I'll tear your fur off if you touch any of my clanmates again," he snarled, his fur fluffing up so he looked twice his size, which was pretty big. He glared at the reddish-brown creature in front of him.

Summerpaw screeched in fury as the fox attacked, fur puffed up. She didn't look all that intimidating, just like a little ball all golden fluff, but it didn't matter. This fox dared to attack her Clan, and even if it cost her life, she would defend it. Stubbornness was a strait that she'd never be able to get rid of, and that included sticking around when she probably should've turn tail and ran. She didn't know how to fight - Nightfall hadn't gotten around to teacher her that. But Summerpaw was a smart cat, despite her young age, and with a little help from Tigerstar, was managing to do her best.
When Tigerstar lay still on the ground, it felt like her heart was in her throat. She couldn't protect both Ternflight and Tigerstar at the same time, and she had no idea what Tigerstar's condition was. He was so still that she thought he was dead, and the thought of him dying made her heart ache. But she didn't have time to goof about - the fox lunged at her again, after it's prey - Ternflight. Summerpaw stood her ground and lashed out with her paws, claws digging into it's soft underbelly. The tousled for a minuted, Summerpaw despretly trying not to get squished under its weight or let it sink it's teeth into her scruff. After a moment, she managed to fling it off of her, and it landed in the dirt a couple tail lengths away. She was breathing hard, her face bleeding, and it felt like her ear was on fire. But she stayed in front of Ternflight, unwilling to sacrifice her Clanmate for her safety.
Then Tigerstar stepped in front of her. Her hear soared - he was alive. She mentally thumped herself for forgetting that their leader had nine lives. Guilt pricked at her. Tigerstar had a lost a life due to the fact that she couldn't fight well. The she-cat sighed softy, swaying where she was standing, but kept her ground. "Leave now!"[/color] she hissed, eyes slitted.

The large tabby's eyes narrowed as he watched the fox. It was looking for a way around the two cats. He lashed out a paw with a hiss and watched as it flinched. He heard it growl one more time and turn, fleeing into the night. Tigerstar gave chase until it left over the ridge that led into the camp. Snorting, he turned and headed back in. Limping, he headed back towards the two cats. His green eyes rested on Summerpaw.
"You did well. You are promising for the clan, thats for sure," he mewed, before looking at Ternflight. He narrowed his eyes to see if his best friend was breathing. A sigh of relief escaped him as he saw the gentle rise and fall of his chest. He sat down and licked the tom's head, waiting for Fernwhisker to come and check on him. He glanced at the apprentice. He noticed that the small she-cat looked guilty. He rested his tail tip on her shoulder.
"Its not your fault, Summerpaw. You were just apprenticed. I didn't expect you to drive off the fox by yourself," he stated, flattening his fur. He gave her a tiny smile. His muscles shrieked with pain as he stood back up. He bunched up his muscles and took a flying leap up onto a log. He looked down at his clan. His eyes were filled with anger.
"You all should be ashamed of yourselves! An apprentice, a sick cat, and your leader attacked the fox while you all stood there. The whole clan, except for Ternflight, Summperaw, and Fernwhisker, must be punished! You all can go to sleep hungry. And tomorrow you must bring home two pieces of fresh kill each before you may eat," he snarled. His tail lashed, showing that was the end of the meeting. Leaping back down, he headed back towards the two injured cats.

Summerpaw watched as the fox and Tigerstar stared eachother down, tense. It surprised her more than anything else when the fox fled, and she blinked in surprise. She had thought it was fight to the death. As Tigerstar chased after it - with what energy, she had no idea - the small cat turned to make sure Ternflight was still alive. She was no medicine cat (nor did she really want to be), but she knew enough that Ternflight was badly injured. He was still breathing, though, so that was always a plus. Unsure what to do, Summerpaw hovered uselessly over her fallen Clanamate as she waited for Tigerstar to get back. She was exhausted, and the claw marks on her face, flank and ear hurt enough to make her want to crawl in a hole and die. She didn't, however, stubbornly waiting for her leader.
When Tigerstar returned, Summerpaw was surprised at his praise. She hadn't thought it was anything special - wasn't that what cats were suppose to do? The little cat was honestly baffled, but the praise made her fur feel warm. "Thanks, Tigerstar." she meowed quietly, green eyes shining despite her exhaustion. She watched as Tigerstar checked on his friend, also waiting for Fernwhisker. All she really wanted to do was go to the apprentice's den and sleep for a moon. The Gathering plus the fight had exhausted her, though she kept on her feet as Tigerstar spoke. She dropped her green eyes as he tried to reassure her."I know, Tigerstar, I do. I just wish I could've done more." she admitted in a tiny voice, sheugging her shoulders, then wincing.
When Tigerstar addressed the Clan, she felt a tittle trickle of pride go through her. Tigerstar appreciated her help. Though she sort of felt awkard being named in front of the Clans - she was only an apprentice after all! - she did feel a bit better about herself. The small cat scuffled her paws, looking at the ground, wondering what she was suppose to do now...
