stop now! before it's too late, your lover was for hire, have you noticed he's been late? It was a cruel thing for her to do, and she knew it. Raise kits as Assassins, or don’t raise them at all. But her heart felt little regret, as Ravenfeather’s membership with her new leader meant both his life and her’s.
They would be happy, right? of course they will, she told herself. they’d grow up strong, happy, talented, powerful. they’ll achieve everything I never could. exceed the assassin’s ranks, gain trust, reign the forest. I’ll teach them everything I know. vesper thought for a moment, puzzled by a sudden question. what if she couldn’t? what if she wasn’t there to teach them? what if something happened to her? where would they go? to ravenfeather, of course. still, vesper wasn’t soothed. what if he refused to raise them as assassins? then rainstorm would teach them. did she really trust her kits with rainstorm?
Vesper shook the thoughts away, turning her attention back to the thoughtful ravenfeather. “We’d be happy,” she purred. “All living together, sheltered and unharmed. We would have protection! Don’t you want that?” |

Ravenfeather's ears perked as he heard her say that the kits were gonna be raised in the assassins. His fur began to bristle, but he forced it to lay flat again. His blue eyes turned to face the she-cat. "You will be a wonderful mother to the kits," he mewed, smiling at her. Then she asked the question, again. Was he gonna be there?
Was he? He didn't know. Did he want to be with her and have kits with her? Of course. Could he betray his clan? Maybe. Did he want to join the assassins? Of course not. He sighed a little. He then heard her speak again. "Of course I want protection, Vesper. Can't you see that? I do want to be happy with you all, but... with the assassins?" he asked, before looking at the sky. He let out another sigh,
"Rainstorm would kill those kits by training them to be too hard. He's ruthless and could careless about our kits. The only kits he wouldn't kill like that are his own. And I'm not even so sure about that," he added, wondering if he was actually telling the truth or not. That would seem like something Rainstorm would do. Rainstorm really didn't care about any other cat. He just wanted power and an heir to that power.
"As I said before, I will think about it," he mewed again, looking at her. He smiled.

She couldn’t help but feel anxious. What if Rainstorm found out she had run off with Ravenfeather for the night? He wouldn’t be mad, would he? After all, she had swayed her mate to join the Assassins. As the she-cat dozed off, her mind began to wander back to the kits. “Rainstorm might keep his sharp tongue, but he would never kill our kits,” she replied firmly. “The young ones are his future.” Her tone remained neutral. “He’s tried recruiting Warriors, but as stubborn as they are, none will truly pledge their allegiance.” Vesper shook her head sadly, resting it on her two front paws.
As the sun went down and the cool breeze quieted, Vesper swiveled and ear. A tiny noise, no louder than a mouse, shifted its weight in the bushes. Her large glowing yellow eyes targeted the noise, and her hind legs bunched for a spring. The tall slender Savannah leaped off the High Rock, land silently in the grassy field before darting into the gorse. After a moment spotting and targeting, Vesper stepped out, young vole hanging from her jaws. In a few long strides, Vesper climbed back up the stone, sitting beside the tom and placing the prey in front of his paws.
“What doesn’t kill them, will only make the stronger.” |

Ravenfeather's whiskers twitched as he watched Vesper lay down next to him. He smiled and laid down as well, licking her shoulder once as he heard her. He wasn't sure if he believed her or not. His blue eyes looked at Vesper. How can she trust that silver tabby fur ball so much?Surely they barely knew each other. Or did they know each other more than Ravenfeather knew her?
He shook his head, clearing his mind. He wouldn't get jealous over that piece of mouse-dung. "Those warriors are smart then. They'll stay with their clans," he mewed, rubbing his cheek against her shoulder. He blinked a bit. He watched as she bunched up her muscles and leap down. A minute later she was in a gorse bush. The next thing he knew, she was back on the rock with a vole in her mouth. He smiled as she dropped it at his paws.
"Thanks," he mewed. He couldn't remember the last time he ate. He took a bite out of the vole. It tasted good. He chewed it and pushed it back towards Vesper to let her take a bite. "Did you know that Rainstorm's own brother drove him out of the clan? Tigerstar wouldn't do such a thing unless Rainstorm did something truly evil," he mewed, twining his tail with Vesper's.

On any other occasion, Vesper would be quick to correct, as her mind was filed with multiple different ways of splitting the clans apart. But she wasn’t sure whether she could trust the loyal Warrior with her carefully saved plans, mate or not. He was considering following her, granted. Yet it was clear as day Ravenfeather still felt cautious of her leader. “Don’t flatter yourself,” she purred playfully. “I have my tricks.”
Vesper ripped a chunk of vole for herself, hastily nudging it back to the tom. She already had enough prey in the barn, but she wasn’t sure if Ravenfeather did. She knew only too well what leaf-bare was like in the forest. “I stand by my leader,” she replied, attempting to dismiss the subject. Although her expression showed no sign of hesitation, the history of Rainstorm had always been questioned. What was his motivation to destroy the clans? |

Ravenfeather's ears flicked at her remark. He dug into the vole and soon he was finished, "And not all of these warriors are mouse-brained enough to join the Assassins. I'm only thinking about it because I want to be with you," he mewed, shaking his head a bit. He laid his head on his paws, digging his claws into the ground. He looked up at her again. "Do you want know about some of the cats in the clans? They can either be dead or not. All you have to do is ask," he mewed.
A yawn escaped his maw. He would have to make his decision either tomorrow or the day after. He knew it would be important. Then he stopped. A smile appeared on his lips. "And I've made up my mind. Its only because of you and the future family we might have together. I'll join the assassins," he mewed. 'And be a spy for the clan cats. HA! They'll never know.' he thought.
((Its fine. I have a plan for Ravenfeather.))

It seemed he had repeated the same words over and over again. The only reason he would join the Assassins, was because of her. The she-cat huffed. That was fine. As long as he stayed in bounds, they’d both be able to stay alive. But the rest of Wind Clan? They consisted of strong warriors in surprisingly high numbers. But they would be gone too. Did she really want to attach herself to the lives she would so willingly kill?
“No,” she murmured, her voice barely a whisper. Her head shook before he finished his sentence. She was ready to get up, fight against what he so stubbornly wanted to protect. But to her great surprise, he hadn’t stopped there. “Wait, you will?” she purred, unveiling the solemn curtain she most often masked herself in. All caution missed her as Vesper beamed in agreement. “Then we’ll be together.” Her mind wandered back to the Two-Leg stories she was told as a kit. “Forever?” The slender coal black she-cat stood, curling up beside Ravenfeather as she wrapped her tail around his. |
