A snort came from the tom. His black fur was being ruffled by the wind. He couldn't believe he had to go on this patrol! He had just brought back a rabbit and one of his friends had told him to join the patrol. He bared his teeth at the other cat who was in front of him, but he felt the other cat flick him over his ear. Clearly, they didn't think he was annoyed. He sighed after a moment. He shouldn't be so mean. They were running low on cats these days.
"Ravenfeather, go check the border by the farm. We'll be up ahead. Come straight to us when you're done," the cat mewed. Ravenfeather nodded and watched as they ran off. He headed towards the border at a much slower pace. His blue eyes carefully scanned the horizon, wondering why he had to check this border by himself. Were they testing him to see if he was still loyal to Windclan?
He growled as he remembered that only half a moon ago, Vesper tried to get into the clan. He had been punished severely for that. That stupid she-cat didn't listen to him! He couldn't believe it when she just took off. He had chased after her, but he had gotten distracted and she had made it to camp. His tail lashed. He remembered Ivythorn rejecting her. He remembered that Vesper had looked so sad, which she probably was. He had wanted to go after her to comfort her, but he couldn't. He was already getting glares from his clanmates.
Now he kind of hoped to see the she-cat he loved. He wanted to see if she was okay. He wanted to feel her warm gaze and the brush of her fur on his. He could almost breath in her scent on the wind. Wait. He could breath her scent. His paws picked up the pace until he was running forward, eager to see her. He slowed down his pace as he made it to the border. He could still smell her, but he couldn't see her. His heart pounded in his chest and disappointment swept over him as he noticed the scent was stale.
His blue eyes clouded over in sadness. Sitting down, he decided to wait a little bit. "I'm going crazy. I need to be with her, but I can't just leave Windclan. What am I going to do?" he mewed to himself, wrapping his tail around his paws. He looked at the sky, wondering if Starclan was punishing him for not falling in love with a Windclan cat.
((Oh Yeah. And Ivythorn is Mentor to my cat Dappledpaw. Just thought I should tell you.))

stop now! before it's too late, your lover was for hire, have you noticed he's been late? [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,460,true][atrb=style, background: url(http://i53.tinypic.com/a2vuas.png); padding: 5px; text-align: justify; color: #202020; text-transform: lowercase;] Shuffle. A frail baby mouse dashed from one hole in the barn to the next. It’s ears were large, and much to overgrown for its head. She wondered if it weighed him down. Then again, her ears were large, and they didn’t weigh her down. The mouse took a frantic turn and quickly disappeared. He was young, and the perfect shade one would expect a little brown mouse to be. Yet his frame was slender and crippled. And as she realized the date of his birth, she realized he would last long. Mice born in the fall never lasted through leaf-bare. He was no use catching.
With a ginger step, the tall elegant young Savannah turned her head to the field. She couldn’t see past the tall dying grass, and the breeze was much to bitter to catch any clear scent. Dust swept from inside the Two-Leg den blew into her eyes, narrowing them to burning slits. To her disappointment, most of the fallen leaves had already been blown away. She and the other barn cats had always gathered them for themselves and jumped in from the top of the haystacks. It was an annual event. But being a newly recruited assassin, she found none of them would trust her anymore. Then again, they never did before.
Vesper paused for a moment, sitting on her haunches and wrapping her tail as far around herself as she could. As the wind died down, she took a breath. The scents were fresh and familiar, warming her heart and brightening her eyes. The scent of honey, chamomile, lavender, and wild flowers filled her nostrils.
But she couldn’t smile. She wouldn’t, she refused. She wasn’t here out of her own enjoyment. She was sent, and by none other than Rainstorm for that matter. She would have to meet Ravenfeather, betray him, hurt him. What other choice did she have? Her eyes glanced sideways, searching for any lingering spies. I’ll send him off, she told herself. I’ll have him run off to find shelter. I can’t have him. Rainstorm will break his spine before I even get in a word to him. And if I can’t have him, Wind Clan can’t either. She frowned for a moment, determination shining through her eyes.
Then, she caught the scent. Ravenfeather, oh, Ravenfeather! Her eyes bolted from corner to corner, trying to catch the dark tom’s figure. Vesper ran forward, into the field and through the tall grass. Her head poked out from above it, the rest of her densely protected by weeds and wild flowers. Her eyes widened in fear, still unable to make out what to think of the Warrior. Was she supposed to love him, or hate him? Did he love her? Was he still mad at her for running off? Or was she supposed to be mad at him for speaking so negatively to her in the first place. Vesper shook her head softly. No, she needed to put all of that aside. It didn’t matter to her what he had thought or not. She just wanted him alive.
“Ravenfeather,” she whispered, poking her head out of the grass. |

Ravenfeather got up after a few moments later. He renewed the boundaries and turned to head away. Then he heard something. It was his name. And the voice was like music to his ears. He turned his head and saw Vesper staring at him. A purr rose from his throat. He turned back around and headed to her. Once he was a few centimeters away, he stopped. His eyes stared into hers. They were filled with warmth and love. "Vesper....I'm sorry," he mewed, pressing his face into her shoulder.
Her fur was soft and her scent wafted around him. It relaxed him. He wished he could stay like this forever. Both of their black pelts brushing against each other, their scents mixing. He itched to twine their tails together, but resisted in case she was mad at him for attacking her last time they met. At least he didn't use claws. He wasn't sure if he could ever use claws against this beautiful she-cat. He let out more purrs, unable to say anything else. He didn't know what else to say, anyways.
After another minute, he took a step back. His whiskers twitched in happiness. "What are you doing down here? Surely you can't think of trying to join Windclan again." he mewed, sitting down. His blue eyes were wide with curiosity now. He didn't know he could feel this way about a she-cat. Maybe he should leave Windclan. He did love her. He would do anything to protect her. But what about his clan? He shook his head. They would understand, wouldn't they? He was doing this out of love.
((No, its fine. I just thought I should tell you in case you didn't know. We could create a training thread for them.))

She didn’t know what say. ‘It’s okay, I forgive you’? But she didn’t forgive him, at least, not fully. The young Loner took a shy step forward, her smile grim and her eyes solemn. She wasn’t mad at him, not especially. Yet as the Warrior brushed his pelt against hers, Vesper was hesitant. She loved him. She loved him dearly. But she knew what she was about to say would change the way he thought of her forever. And how could she love a tom who didn’t love her back?
“No, I’m sorry,” she replied, her bright golden gaze catching on the tom’s inquisitive expression. He was happy to see her. Why? “I didn’t come to join your clan. I’ve come to ask you to join mine.” She paused for a moment, trying to reword herself. “Ravenfeather, do you remember the Shadow clan tom? He ran away, kicked out of his own clan by Tigerstar. His name is Rainstorm, second in command of the assassin army.” Her voice began to shake, her own throat going dry. Watching the tom was hard, listening to herself was harder. “I’ve joined him now.”
Vesper took a step forward, trying to comfort the tom. Her glossy obsidian tail flicked anxiously, as the silence was much too hard to bear. “He knows about you, Ravenfeather. He pulled it out of me! I couldn’t betray you, I wouldn’t. But, that’s why I’m here… Join me.” |

Ravenfeather looked at her. His ears twitching in confusion. She was sorry for what? She hadn't done anything wrong. Except for not listen to him before, but he forgave her for that. Boy, was he off. She was sorry for something else. Something she didn't want him to know. That was clear by the fear scent that was coming from her.
Then she started to speak again. He gave a slight nod as she reminded him of Rainstorm. He had met the much larger, silver tom at Gatherings before. Plus, he had gotten into a few border fights with him. He was definitely not the cat to mess with. He could kill Ravenfeather easily if he was pinned down. Then he heard something else. He shuddered as he thought of Rainstorm being 2nd in Command of the assassins. That was not good.
He was going to tell her thanks for the warning so that he could tell his leader, but she continued. She joined him? But why? His fur began to bristle and his ears laid flat on his head. He narrowed his eyes and bared his teeth at her. He listened to her until she finished. She couldn't betray him? "Betray me? You already have! How dare you join the assassins! I already told you that they were dangerous," he snarled. His tail lashed back and forth.
His eyes darkened after a moment. He turned away from her. He let out a small whine. "I thought I could trust you. I loved you, Vesper. I always have. How can you expect me to betray my clan like that?" he groaned, turning back to her. His blue eyes were filled with hurt. His legs were shaking and his heart was pounding. He felt sick. "I was going to leave my clan to live with you. As loners. Now.... I don't know what to do," he added.
He felt like his was going to pass out. He felt like he was choking on a rabbit's bone. His tail lowered so it was dragging on the ground. He lowered his head and his ears began to droop. His black fur was still fluffed up, but he didn't bother to try and flatten it. Starclan had finally told him what to do. His destiny was not with the she-cat he loved. It was to stay with his clan.

Yet the only emotion that masked her face was regret. “Dangerous, ha! Not to me they aren’t.” A wary smile pulled at her muzzle. “He’s accepted me, Ravenfeather. He took me in when your clan wouldn’t.” She paws shuffled backwards, frightened by his sudden anger. “If anyone’s been betrayed , it’s been I!” Then, his words struck her, their blow sharp and painful.
He loved her... He loved her, he loved her, he loved her. Vesper heard nothing else. But wait, past-tense loved. That achy feeling she felt for every other important cat in her life, her mother, her two-legs, her siblings, her entire family. She once loved them, cherished them, in fact. But no, not anymore. “You can trust me! I’m telling you the truth, aren’t I?” Vesper leaned forward, her paws still firmly planted in the grass.
“Joined me as a Loner?” she echoed. “You hate Loners! Your precious clan hates Loner. Why, they hate me.” The tall she-cat lashed her tail. “And assassins, oh, assassins. They don’t see a difference! Join me as a Loner, or as an Assassin, they don’t care. You’re still a traitor in their eyes.”
Vesper’s rage began to die as quickly as the tom’s eyes began to sadden. “Ravenfeather, this isn’t about pride, or honor, or rebellion. This is about life or death. He knows about you. He might not kill you himself, but one of his cats will.” She was careful not to mention herself in his plans. “I can’t let you die, Ravenfeather.” Finally, she stepped forward. “I love you.” |

Ravenfeather listened to her. He shook his head as she spoke. He took a step forward and pressed his nose to hers. His eyes were filled with warmth, love, and sadness. He licked her cheek a few times. "Life or death..... Vesper, if I join the assassins then I would have to fight my family and friends.... How do you expect me to do that?" he asked, his voice soft, but it was shaking.
He pressed his face into her fur again. "Leave the assassins, Vesper, and I'll leave Windclan. We can travel far away from here. We can make our own family and we don't have to worry about any of this," he mewed, twining his tail with her short one. He couldn't believe this was happening. He just couldn't believe it. He didn't want this to happen. He wanted to be with her in a safe place. After a moment he looked at her again.
"Stay with me. Forever," he mewed, his eyes burning with love. They were practically begging for her to agree.

She was past petty love affairs, although they still tugged at her heart. But this was different, this was Ravenfeather. “I came here to request your membership, sent by my leader,” her voice was shaky, yet surprisingly calm. Her eyes darted to the bushes, checking for any spying cats. “And if you didn’t oblige, I was to immedietaly use force.” The she-cat went silent for a moment, her mind rushing with plans. Then, she finally spoke again, her voice barely a whisper. “I would run away with you if I could, but he has spies.” She motioned behind her. “Even some of the Kitty-Pets are one his side… Listen, I will go with you, but only for a night.” A timid smile played at her lips. Although the idea of being left for a single night seemed pleasant, staying unspotted sounded much too far-fetched. “You may go ahead, I’ll run after you.” Vesper laughed lightly, her eyes still deep in thought. “After all, we must make it look believable.” |

Ravenfeather looked at her. His blue eyes stared into hers. His eyes grew from sadness to shock as she spoke. He looked at the ground, looking at his paws. He was searching for an answer. Would she really attack him? Most likely. The real question was if he would attack back. No. He couldn't raise a claw to her. He sighed and was about to say something when she spoke again. Her voice was like a whisper.
He looked back at her. His black fur blew in the wind as he listened to her. After a moment he understood. She really did want to be with him. She really did. He was gonna purr and start smiling and everything, but he had to play along. After a moment of staring at her, he twitched his tail to tell her that he understood. "Just follow my scent. I'll go to someplace Windclan doesn't check that often," he whispered. He glanced around behind her for any spies, but he couldn't see or scent any. For a moment he thought he saw a pair of icy blue eyes, but then they were gone.
He looked back at Vesper and gave her a mocking hiss. "Wait until Adderstar hears about this! he'll make sure you all wont get away with it," he growled. He then turned and bounded straight into Windclan territory. He was of course faking. He wanted to look back, but he couldn't. He just had to hope that Vesper was following and that she could keep up. If not she would have to find him by scent. After a few moments of heading towards Windclan camp he turned and headed towards Fourtrees.
It wasn't long before he saw the four great oaks. He slowed his pace as he got to the slope that lead down to it. He was breathing heavily. He had crossed the whole territory. After a moment he sat down to take a rest and wait for Vesper.

She wasn’t especially frightened if the assassins finder her. All she cared about was the rank he was jeopardizing for himself. What if something went wrong? What if he was exiled? Vesper turned the thought away. Wind clan didn’t matter. At least it wouldn’t. When she helped rule the forest, he wouldn’t need a rank to keep. The sharp bitter feeling of disdain burnt on her tongue, the heavy feeling of paranoia weighing on her shoulders. Then again, Vesper did have something to worry about. She had a role in Rainstorm’s army, a pass from the threatening life of Queen. She didn’t want to bear kits every season, even if they were fathered by her mate. Nothing would hold her back, not even Ravenfeather.
Vesper kept running, twisting past shrubs and low branches. Her pace began to steady, watching the small black tom sprint ahead of her. Her shoulders tensed as her eyes caught a familiar glacial gaze, its dark glowering energy heart-stopping. The newly appointed Assassin whirled around, searching again. Yet she caught nothing. With a small hidden nod, Vesper followed.
“Ha! Your leader, eh?” she replied, her tone surprisingly authentic. As in truth, she held quite a grudge for him. With that, the she-cat picked up her speed. Her paws came to a sudden halt, raking into the ground as she stopped. Her eyes lingered upward, jumping from tree to tree as she stared in awe of the great oaks. “Out of all of Windclan, you brought me to the one place seen miles away,” she smiled. It was quite unusual to see a collection of trees in the moorland. |

Ravenfeather smiled at Vesper. Yes, this was far away from the Barn and twoleg place. He let out a small purr at her comment. "Yes, I know. These four Great Oaks represent the four clans in the forest," he mewed, his tail twining with her. He pressed he pelt up against hers, letting black fur brush black fur. His blue eyes turned to look at her. They were full of love and warmth for the odd looking she-cat. "Windclan doesn't come by here that often. Only on border patrols, but they already patrolled down here today. They wont be back," he added, pressing his nose to her muzzle.
He then headed down the slope as he saw no one there. His eyes and ears were alert, wondering if any other cats were around. He purred as he found out that no one was there. "That's where the leaders stand at the gathering. The cats that they bring sit down here," he mewed pointing to the Great Rock and then swept his tail over the clearing.

Instead, she gazed over the rock. Her tail, wrapped around the tom’s, flicked with curiosity. Her paws raced forward, one falling on the smooth surface of the stone as the other balanced itself. It was wide enough to hold numerous cats, most likely four or five. But it’s great height was much too tall for any young cat to jump onto. Unless, of course, she was tall enough. In one long bound, she leapt forward. With claws unsheathed, she landed. Her legs tensed in anticipation for the shock, her claws scraping at the stone for balance.
So this was the Great Rock. She had heard of it numerous times from Littleflame and other ex-Warrior cats. But never had she ever thought of venturing near it. A mischievous sense of satisfaction began to fill her, inflating her chest with pride. The influence one had standing atop of it was obvious, and she couldn’t help but grow a feeling of victory. One day, she would stand before her leader, ruler of the forest, and she too would belong in the circle.
Her head turned back to Ravenfeather, her face the image of satisfaction. But something else shone in her eyes, something that hadn’t been there before. It was atypical, slightly unsettled. And it was clear her previous exchange with Rainstorm hadn’t left her the same she-cat she was before. Vesper had different goals now, nearly every one tied with revenge.
Suddenly, she spoke. “Are you sure you don’t want to join me?” she asked, her tone bizarrely light. “Oh, you’d be such a marvelous fighter, maybe something even more!” Vesper sat, licking a paw and swiping it over her ear in one casual motion. “You must realize, it’ll be a new start for us. You can exceed the ranks, and we can rule with them.” She let out a lazy sigh. “By the time I die, this forest will be changed. I just know it.” |

The black tom watched Vesper as she leaped onto the Great Rock. He let out a small purr and sat down before it, His ears flicked as gnats flew around him. Lifting his muzzle, he tasted the air. It wasn't going to rain, but it would be a cold night. His blue eyes moved to look up at the She-cat as she asked him a question. A sigh escaped him. "No... I can't join. Windclan is my home and my family," he mewed, tail flicking.
He then heard her say something else. He smiled at her compliment. "I already am a wonderful fighter, My dear Vesper," he purred as he bunched up his muscles. He took a leap up onto the great rock. He made it to the top in one leap. His blue eyes looked at her again. She was different than before, but he couldn't tell how. He sat down again and twined his tail with hers. He listened to her again. Another sigh escaped him. "Rainstorm isn't the cat you think he is," he mewed.
He shook his head and closed his eyes as he thought of the large, silver tom. How can he be so manipulative? Surely being an assassin isn't that great. And that group had to be much smaller than the four clans combined. The forest cats could totally beat them. They also knew the territory better than the assassins. Opening his eyes, he smelt a scent. It wasn't his or Vespers and it didn't smell of any of the clans. It did smell familiar, though. He saw a gray and white pelt out of the corner of his eye. Turning, he saw a smiling cat, but then she disappeared into thin air. He was shocked for a moment.
'Is Starclan trying to say something? That was Graymist. Does she want me to join the assassins?' he wondered. He shook his head and turned back to the she-cat next to him. Then an idea crossed his mind. He could join the assassins and be a spy for the clans! That would be great! He would have to ask Adderstar first, though. "Let me think about your offer, Vesper. Joining the Assassins does mean we can be together, but it also means being away from my family," he mewed firmly. It showed that the conversation about that was over. It was silence for the next for minutes.
"Vesper.... Have you ever thought about having kits?" he asked, looking at her.

She scooted to the side for a moment, making room for the tom. “Of course, how silly of me,” Vesper laughed, entwining her tail with his. “Rainstorm had dreams, just like you and I. But his were crushed, yours were weaned through kithood. What would you expect from a cat mistreated by his family?” She shook her head for a moment as Ravenfeather’s eyes drew elsewhere, as if to dismiss the subject entirely. She wasn’t fond of thinking deeper into a cat’s past, although the Loner was quite skilled at it. Any hint of weakness seemed like a step out of bounds, somewhere not even she could venture.
Vesper turned back to the tom, startled by his sudden quizzical expression. It looked like he’d seen a ghost. “Are you okay?” she asked, chuckling softly as his expression smoothed. A hopeful smile lit up her face. “You’ll think about it?” she asked. Vesper jumped to her feet, pouncing on the ebony tom. “Oh, you really mean it?” She purred, stepping down and rolling on her back.
Suddenly, her smile faltered. Kits. Oh, kits. She’d considered it before, her mind always racing back to Ravenfeather. In her mind, they had been his kits. They had always been his kits. But in reality? Vesper sat up. She had her life ahead of her. She was going to be an Assassin, a fighter, a conqueror. Not a Queen. Vesper’s gaze met the tom’s. But this was Ravenfeather she was talking about. He wasn’t just any silly Warrior, angry Loner, or mysterious Assassin. He was Ravenfeather, her ravenfeather, her love. That changed things, right?

Ravenfeather looked at the she-cat. He let out a shocked yowl as he was pounced on. He laid there for a moment, unsure of what to say or do. She was so happy that he would think about it. Finally, she let him back up. Rolling to his paws, he noticed the she-cat suddenly got really quiet. He looked at her. She was thinking, that was clear. He smiled as she thought of the question he had asked. Then he saw her look at him.
"Really?" he asked, a bit shocked. He hadn't meant to interrupt her. It just happened. His tail curled in happiness. "You want to have kits with me?" he asked, happily. A smile appeared on his face and his eyes brightened up. He couldn't believe it. Well, he kind of could, but it was still a shock. He pressed his face into her shoulder. "Vesper, you have no idea how happy this makes me," he mewed. He then moved and licked her face a few times. He usually never showed this much emotion, but he couldn't contain it.
"I love you, Vesper. I do want you to have my kits. They'll be strong cats. Great for-," he cut himself off short. 'Windclan.' he thought, finishing his sentence in his mind. He couldn't think that. He didn't know where the kits were gonna grow up if they had any. It was a scary thought. Not being in a clan that was able to protect you and feed you when you couldn't do it yourself. He moved his blue eyes away to look at the sky. It was turning orange and pink, the beginning of sunset. A purr escaped him. Soon he would be under the watchful eyes of Silverpelt.
